ABSTRACT

The COVID-19 pandemic has caused substantial damage to global health. Even though three years have passed, the world continues to struggle with the virus. Concerns are growing about the impact of COVID-19 on the mental health of infected individuals, who are more likely to experience depression, which can have long-lasting consequences for both the affected individuals and the world. Detection and intervention at an early stage can reduce the risk of depression in COVID-19 patients. In this paper, we investigated the relationship between COVID-19 infection and depression through social media analysis. Firstly, we managed a dataset of COVID-19 patients that contains information about their social media activity both before and after infection. Secondly, We conducted an extensive analysis of this dataset to investigate the characteristic of COVID-19 patients with a higher risk of depression. Thirdly, we proposed a deep neural network for early prediction of depression risk. This model considers daily mood swings as a psychiatric signal and incorporates textual and emotional characteristics via knowledge distillation. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed framework outperforms baselines in detecting depression risk, with an AUROC of 0.9317 and an AUPRC of 0.8116. Our model has the potential to enable public health organizations to initiate prompt intervention with high-risk patients. © 2023 ACM.

ABSTRACT

The global outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has affected the urban mobility of nations around the world. The pandemic may even have a potentially lasting impact on travel behaviors during the post-pandemic stage. China has basically stopped the spread of COVID-19 and reopened the economy, providing an unprecedented environment for investigating post-pandemic travel behaviors. This study conducts multiple investigations to show the changes in travel behaviors in the post-pandemic stage, on the basis of empirical travel data in a variety of cities in China. Specifically, this study demonstrates the changes in road network travel speed in 57 case cities and the changes in subway ridership in 26 case cities. Comprehensive comparisons can indicate the potential modal share in the post-pandemic stage. Further, this study conducts a case analysis of Beijing, where the city has experienced two waves of COVID-19. The variations in travel speed in the road network of Beijing at different stages of the pandemic help reveal the public's responses towards the varying severity of the pandemic. Finally, a case study of the Yuhang district in Hangzhou is conducted to demonstrate the changes in traffic volume and vehicle travel distance amid the post-pandemic stage based on license plate recognition data. Results indicate a decline in subway trips in the post-pandemic stage among case cities. The vehicular traffic in cities with subways has recovered in peak hours on weekdays and has been even more congested than the pre-pandemic levels;whereas the vehicular traffic in cities without subways has not rebounded to pre-pandemic levels. This situation implies a potential modal shift from public transportation to private vehicular travel modes. Results also indicate that commuting traffic is sensitive to the severity of the pandemic. This may be because countermeasures, e.g., work-from-home and suspension of non-essential businesses, will be implemented if the pandemic restarts. The travel speed in non-peak hours and on non-workdays is higher than pre-pandemic levels, indicating that non-essential travel demand may be reduced and the public's vigilance towards the pandemic may continue to the post-pandemic stage. These findings can help improve policymaking strategies in the post-pandemic new normal. © 2023 American Society of Civil Engineers.

ABSTRACT

The boom in e-commerce around the world since the COVID-19 outbreak has indirectly yet markedly affected business brands and the marketing strategies they use to promote products and services. To effectively respond to this e-commerce trend, companies must formulate plans to navigate the new digital business landscape and to ensure that their brands stand out from those of competitors. A domain name is a string of text that represents a company. Users type a domain name or URL into a browser's search bar to reach a particular website that they wish to view. All registered domain names are unique and cannot be used by anyone other than their owner. For these reasons, some scholars suggested that domain names must be protected through intellectual property laws. However, because the owner of a registered domain name is only entitled to use that particular domain name for a specific period and thus does not have full ownership of it, domain names are not protected by copyright. Because domain names can be used to promote businesses, improve companies' reputation, and create business opportunities similar to any other form of intellectual property, many cases of domain name infringement have been occurred. Such cases include copying of the domain name owned by somebody else to deceive customers into believing a camouflage website is the corresponding official website. Various preventive measures and policies have been adopted in many countries to resolve such disputes. Taiwan's legal system, however, has not yet taken action to avoid such disputes. Any cases regarding the infringement of domain names can only be handled through negotiation, investigation, and evidence collection. First of all, this paper will introduce the definition of a domain name and then describe the types of infringement may occur in various situations as well as the policies regarding domain name management and protection. This study can serve as a useful reference for Taiwan's legal practitioners and future researchers.

ABSTRACT

The devastating outbreaks of COVID-19 pandemic has negatively impacted social and economic sustainability of the world, particularly in routine services that require physical interactions, such as dining services. With the retrospective analysis via case study, we identified three cases in dining service from USA, Indonesia, Taiwan, respectively, and investigated their service systems with the Service-Dominant Logic to understand the interactions among actors and how they integrated resources to cope with the pandemic. We identified their resilient practices heavily relied on various types of social capital to quickly respond to demand shifts, reconnect value networks, and leverage ICTs for marketing and sales. These resilient practices could be used for guiding small and medium enterprises to cope with devastating unexpected crises, taking COVID-19 as an example. More cases collected and analyzed from corresponding regions in the follow-up study could further conclude a more general causal relationship in resilience toward the theory for resilience. © 2023 IEEE Computer Society. ABSTRACT

Online credit recovery will likely expand in the coming years as school districts try to address increased course failure rates brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. Some researchers and policymakers, however, raise concerns over how much students learn in online courses, and there is limited evidence about the effectiveness of online credit recovery. This article presents findings from a multisite randomized study, conducted prior to the pandemic, to expand the field's understanding of online credit recovery's effectiveness. Within 24 high schools from a large urban district, the study randomly assigned 1,683 students who failed Algebra 1 or ninth grade English to a summer credit recovery class that either used an online curriculum with in-class teacher support or the school's business-as-usual teacher-directed class. The results suggest that online credit recovery had relatively insignificant effects on student course experiences and content knowledge, but significantly lower credit recovery rates for English. There was limited heterogeneity in effects across students and schools. Non-response on the study-administered student survey and test limit our confidence in the student experience and content knowledge results, but the findings are robust to different approaches to handling the missing data (multiple imputation or listwise deletion). We discuss how the findings add to the evidence base about online credit recovery and the implications for future research. © 2023 American Institutes for Research. ABSTRACT

Background: Anti-tumour necrosis factor drugs such as infliximab are associated with attenuated antibody responses after COVID-19 vaccination It is unknown how infliximab impacts vaccine-induced serological responses against highly transmissible Omicron variants, which possess the ability to evade host immunity and are now the dominating variants causing current waves of infection Methods: In this prospective, multicentre, observational cohort study we investigated neutralising antibody responses against SARS-CoV-2 wild-type and Omicron BA.1 and BA.4/5 variants after three doses of COVID-19 vaccination in 1288 patients with IBD without prior COVID-19 infection, who were established on either infliximab (n=871) or vedolizumab (n=417). Cox proportional hazards models were constructed to investigate the risk of breakthrough infection in relation to neutralising antibody titres Results: Following three doses of COVID-19 vaccine, neutralising titre NT50 (half-inhibitory neutralising titre) was significantly diminished in patients treated with infliximab as compared to patients treated with vedolizumab, against wild-type, BA.1 and BA.4/5 variants (Fig 1). Patients with Crohn's disease showed lower antibody NT50 compared to patients with ulcerative colitis against wild-type strain and BA.4/5 (Fig 2). Older age and thiopurine were independently associated with lower NT50 against wild-type strain and BA.4/5 (Fig 2). Non-white ethnicity was associated with higher NT50 compared to white ethnicity against wild-type strain, BA.1 and BA.4/5 (Fig 2). Breakthrough infection was significantly more frequent in patients treated with infliximab compared to patients treated with vedolizumab (Fig 3). Cox proportional hazards models of time to breakthrough infection after the third dose showed infliximab treatment to be associated with a higher hazard risk (HR) of 1.71 (95% CI [1.08 to 2.71], p=0.022) compared to vedolizumab (Fig 4). Higher neutralising antibody titres against BA.4/5 were associated with a lower hazard risk and a longer time to breakthrough infection (HR 0.87 [0.79 to 0.95] p=0.0028) (Fig 4) Conclusion(s): Following a third COVID-19 vaccine dose, patients established on infliximab treatment have significantly lower neutralising titres against SARS-CoV-2, which were especially low against Omicron variants. Increased breakthrough infection in infliximab recipients was associated with lower neutralising antibody titres against BA.4/5. These data underline the importance of continued COVID-19 vaccination programs, including second-generation bivalent vaccines, especially in patient subgroups where vaccine immunogenicity and efficacy may be reduced.

ABSTRACT

Modern technology is all about speed and efficiency to connects you with your healthcare provider, ensures virtual communications, and gives you more access and control over the services you receive. Based on literature study, there is a lack of healthcare appointment system that enables patients making appointment and doctor confirming the appointment on the fly. This project aims to create a Smart Telehealth Appointment System-WI Care that enables user to make an appointment in ease. Compared to existing health care system, WI Care will be more prior to services instead of technology. Due to COVID-19 pandemics, constant lockdown had resulting social distancing measures, movement control order, and people avoid outdoor activities. These also led to poor service quality due to limitation of staff working in office with less working hours which directly affects the GPs and doctors' career at dead end. For the fundamentals of the system, WI Care will have an appointment system that can be managed by doctors meanwhile appointer can keep submitting form. WI Care ensure both parties can be conducting the same procedure as how every GPs and doctors able to work anywhere anytime. With dashboard and time scheduling, these are able to create chance for doctors and GPs having manageable workload as individual without the reliance of hiring staff members. This project suggests the healthy environment whereas every doctor can join WI Care as big community, share skills and tackles problem together. © The 2023 International Conference on Artificial Life and Robotics (ICAROB2023).

ABSTRACT

Mainstream media photographically documented intimate and difficult moments of COVID-19 while also publishing hopeful images. These spanned from intubation, death, and facial bruising from personal protective equipment to Italians harmonizing in song and nightly balcony cheers for US health workers. At the same time, people were documenting and sharing their own experiences across social media. Past research suggests impactful photographs elicit stimuli that can slow people's psychological recovery or offer a therapeutic quality that incites post-traumatic growth. Despite a large body of research that examines visual framing with media photographs, few studies examine the ways in which viewing photographs of disaster influences disaster survivors, and to our knowledge, no studies examine this during an unfolding trauma in a world in which the survivors themselves digitally archive the event through images. The present panel longitudinal study seeks to investigate this gap by better understanding the impact of COVID-19 photographs through employing a visual self-narrative approach and photo-elicitation interviews. Fifty-seven participants were recruited in May 2020 and 35 repeat participants were recruited in May 2021. The research examines (1) reasons people vulnerable to the pandemic may find viewing and sharing photographs important, (2) responses to shared images, and (3) changes people experience in their relationship to photographs over time. Findings suggest that participants have a drive to share their experiences and learn about others, while pandemic photographs in themselves hold more of a negative impact for the viewer as they are experiencing the pandemic, which, over time, lessens and trends toward more positive nostalgia. © The Author(s) 2023.

ABSTRACT

A century of changes combined with the COVID-19 pandemic has sounded the alarm on energy security around the world. How to deeply understand the relationship between energy transition and energy security, and how to explore the path of China's energy security and the carbon peaking and carbon neutrality (abbreviated as "dual carbon”) strategy have become a major problem. Based on detailed analyses of China's energy consumption predictions and dual carbon strategy requirements, this study proposes: (1) Energy security is the foundation of energy transition. The oil and gas shortage situation in China may persist for a long time. The "dual carbon” goal does not conflict with hydrocarbon security strategy. (2) China's hydrocarbon security needs to be considered at two levels. The deployment needs to be made in the near-, medium-and long-term. First, it is necessary to continue exploring traditional oil and gas resources, including land and sea, conventional and unconventional resources. The second is to actively explore at new areas of oil and gas resources, and focus on organizing the "three revolutions” of in-situ conversion of medium-low mature shale oil, thermal conversion and utilization of oil-rich coal and underground coal gasification to prepare for large-scale increase of oil and gas production. (3) The "dual carbon” strategy is an extensive and profound system revolution. The withdrawal of fossil energy must be based on energy security. The clean use of fossil energy, the increased use of renewable energy, the construction of flexible smart grids, the construction of energy storage infrastructure and the improvement of efficiency in energy utilization, must be paid close attention to simultaneously. On the basis of ensuring energy security, the goal of "carbon neutrality” can be achieved through multiple ways relying on technological progress. © 2023, Science Press. All rights reserved.

ABSTRACT

The crisis of COVID-19 significantly disrupted global education and overturned our understanding of classroom setting in secondary education. This study adopted a mixed methods design to categorize the daily instructional practices of teachers in the early stages of school closure using content analysis and to test the resulting framework using ANOVA. A total of 48 teachers provided five-day diary entries in which they recorded episodic activities and subjective experiences, reported daily teaching techniques, and rated their subjective teaching quality. Four emergent online teaching orientations emerged from the data: 1 nonreciprocal knowledge understanding (1NRKU), 2 nonreciprocal knowledge construction (2NRKC), 3 reciprocal knowledge understanding (3RKU), and 4 reciprocal knowledge construction (4RKC). The results also showed that teachers adopting different online teaching orientations described their experiences differently. Teachers adopting 2NRKC, 3RKU, and 4RKC experienced significantly higher daily teaching satisfaction;teachers adopting 3RKU and 4RKC perceived significantly better student engagement. In terms of teaching readiness, teachers adopting 2NRKC, 3RKU, and 4RKC had significantly more experiences of online professional development and significantly better distance teaching TPCK. This study is innovative in presenting momentary data, which sheds light on future programs for customized professional development that will help prepare teachers for the next educational crisis. © 30th International Conference on Computers in Education Conference, ICCE 2022 - Proceedings.

ABSTRACT

Context: The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the volume and nature of pediatric primary care visits nationwide. Objective: This study aimed to identify trends in pediatric visits during COVID-19 at our institution to reveal challenges and opportunities to improve care. Study Design: Retrospective chart review of all pediatric visits from January 1, 2019 through September 30, 2021 using the electronic health record (EHR). Descriptive statistics were used for data analysis. Setting or Dataset: Single family medicine clinic within a large academic medical center in Northern California. Data collected for each pediatric primary care visit included age, sex, type of visit (preventive or problem-focused), reason for visit (if problem-focused), and mode of visit (in-person or video). Population Studied: Pediatric patients (<18 years old). Intervention/Instrument: N/A Outcome Measures: Volume and nature of pediatric primary care visits. Results: A total of 4,846 pediatric visits occurred during the study period. Visit volume dropped 9% from 2019- 2020, mostly during April-May 2020, and recovered afterward to pre-pandemic baseline through 2021. There were no significant changes to age, sex, or type of visit during the study period with one exception: the proportion of problem-focused visits increased 23% (p=0.004) from 2019-2021 in adolescents aged 12-<18, driven largely by a 107% increase (p<0.001) in the proportion of behavioral health visits (14% in 2019, 18% in 2020, and 29% in 2021). Video visits accounted for 4% of all visits in 2019, 39% in 2020, and 35% in 2021. Video visit volume decreased from 2020-2021 in all age categories except for adolescents aged 12-<18, which remained stable at 43% of all visits. Conclusions : A sharp increase in behavioral health concerns among adolescents stands out as the most notable impact of COVID-19 on pediatric care at our institution. Our findings raise questions about how behavioral health care can be optimized for children and adolescents now and in the post-pandemic era. Copyright © 2023 Annals of Family Medicine, Inc.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: The main purpose of this study was to examine (1) gender differences in remote teaching readiness and mental health problems among university faculty, and (2) to what extent remote teaching readiness is associated with mental health problems among university faculty, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: Survey participants of the study comprised 779 university faculty (58.2% men, 39.4% women, and 2.4% other gender identities or did not report) from 122 higher education institutions in the United States. Results: Chi-square tests and independent t-test findings showed that female faculty reported significantly greater remote teaching challenges–in terms of both technology and course design–and higher levels of anxiety and depression during the COVID-19 pandemic. Structural equation modelling results indicated that remote teaching readiness was associated with mental health problems among faculty during the COVID-19 pandemic. Conclusions: The findings suggest that gender differences in remote teaching readiness can partially explain the gender disparities in mental health problems among faculty, with female faculty being disadvantaged. © 2022 Australian Psychological Society.

ABSTRACT

Background:Pre-existing liver disease is a risk factor for the worse prognosis of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection. We aimed to evaluate whether chronic hepatitis B (CHB) and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) affect the expression of viral receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) and transmembrane serine protease 2 (TMPRSS2) in the liver. Methods:Twelve pairs of matched liver tissues of HCC and para-carcinoma were collected from the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine. And 20 liver biopsies from CHB patients were collected from Peking University People's Hospital. The expression of ACE2 and TMRPSS2 were detected using immunofluorescence staining, western blot, and RT-qPCR. The effects of hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication or interferon on ACE2 and TMPRSS2 expression were tested in hepatic cell lines. Results:The mRNA expression of TMPRSS2 in HCC tissues was six-fold higher than that of para-carcinoma tissues (P = 0.002), whereas that of ACE2 was not statistically different between HCC and para-carcinoma tissues. Hepatocellular ACE2 expression was detected in 35% (7/20) of CHB patients and mostly distributed in the inflammatory areas. However, there was no difference in TMPRSS2 expression between areas with or without inflammation. IFN-α2b slightly induced ACE2 expression (2.4-fold, P = 0.033) in HepG2 cells but not in Huh-7, QSG-7701, and L-02 cells. IFN-α2b did not affect TMPRSS2 expression in these cell lines. In addition, HBV replication did not alter ACE2 expression in HepAD38 cells. Conclusions:Although HBV replication does not directly affect the expression of ACE2 and TMPRSS2, intrahepatic inflammation and carcinogenesis may increase their expression in some patients, which, in turn, may facilitate SARS-CoV-2 infection in hepatocytes. © 2021 The Chinese Medical Association, Published by Wolters Kluwer Health, Inc.

ABSTRACT

Since the outbreak of COVID-19 in the early year 2020, many businesses and industries have encountered serious impact on their operation and maintenance, but the significant growth rate of e-Commerce industries has caught all people's eyes. Many domestic and foreign leading businesses are forced to speed up their configuration for moving into e-Commerce and m-Commerce. For e-Commerce businesses, they do not have much physical communication and interaction with consumers, it may eliminate the expensive management costs, but they cannot provide customers with good opportunities for experiencing. So, how to pure e-Commerce transform into the New Retail Omnichannel operating model is an important research issue. In view of all, this study intends to apply Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) in combination with the Fuzzy Theory to analyze a decision-making issue, namely, what factors are deemed important or concerns to "the pure e-Commerce businesses” in their future transformation into New Retail Omnichannel operating model. In the results of this study, "increase revenue”, "develop customer's potential market”, "increase stock turnover, "reduce reverse logistics costs”, and "increased management costs” are the five consideration factors most important to transformation into new retail model. The results from this study provide the pure e-Commerce businesses with considerably useful reference in the issue of transformation into New Retail operating model in their future. © 2022 International Consortium for Electronic Business. ABSTRACT

The outsized negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic among residents of assisted living (AL) communities has drawn attention to the existing challenges that licensing agencies face in providing oversight in this setting. While regulatory compliance inspections in AL may be a critical tool for promoting high-quality care, no published research has examined the association between deficiencies and resident outcomes in AL. Using novel data collected from 331 AL communities in Oregon (response rate=62%) merged with deficiency data from inspections, we examined whether the number of deficiencies is associated with the following resident outcomes as measured at the community level: share of residents who fell at least one time (fall rate), who were hospitalized overnight (hospitalization rate), and who were treated in the hospital emergency room (ER rate) in the last 90 days. Negative binomial regression models that controlled for a robust set of community (e.g., size, rurality, profit status, "memory care” units) and resident (e.g., age, Medicaid use, ADL needs) characteristics showed a weak, but statistically significant, association between deficiencies and hospitalization rate (IRR=1.05). However, there was no statistically significant association between deficiencies and falls or ER visits among residents. The time lag between inspections and the resident outcome data did not moderate these observed associations. With more states moving to make available such deficiency data on public-facing websites, these results have policy implications for the role and content of regulatory compliance inspections for ensuring quality in AL communities and informing the public.

ABSTRACT

It is well documented that knowledge improvement alone is not sufficient to sustain systems level changes. Through supporting dementia care workforce training and the embedding of Aliviado program tools (treatment algorithms, assessments, care plans, and caregiver education materials) into hospices' clinical workflow across the U.S., we learned that both technologies and human support strategies are essential for lasting changes. In this presentation, we first discuss our experience leveraging a powerful customer relationship management software (Salesforce) to assign, manage, and encourage completion of the interprofessional Aliviado Dementia Care training for thousands of active users across the nation. We then share how we provide additional human support and implementation tools in the face of COVID-19, which can inform implementation of similar trials, including office hours, training reports, Plan-Do-Study-Act worksheets, symptom management cheat sheets, champion calls, and electronic health records integration meetings with each agency to locally tailor and embed Aliviado tools.

ABSTRACT

Most persons living with dementia receive home health or hospice aide services during their hospice stay. To equip aides with essential knowledge and skills to effectively communicate with and care for persons living with dementia, we developed a 17-video dementia care expert program for aides, available in both English and Spanish. The objective of this presentation is two-fold: first, describe the development and refinement of the Aliviado aide dementia care expert program, including topic selection, usability testing, and cultural tailoring;and second, discuss aide knowledge improvement, along with special considerations for training aides during COVID-19. The Aliviado dementia care expert program for aides has been completed by 414 aides across 15 hospices as of February 2022;of which, 384 aides (93%) completed a dementia knowledge assessment both before and after the training and demonstrated significant knowledge gains with moderate-to-large effect sizes (p<0.0001;Cohen's d=0.63).

ABSTRACT

Hospice is a care model characterized by interdisciplinary team-based, person and family-centered care. To optimize agency-wide interdisciplinary team-based hospice dementia care, at least two levels of tailoring of the dementia care workforce training are imperative, first, by discipline, and second, by hospices' local culture and needs. As of February 2022, a thousand and one skilled hospice interdisciplinary team members (not counting champions) across 18 hospice agencies have completed their discipline-specific Aliviado dementia care training, including 56 providers, 763 nurses, 129 social workers, and 53 chaplains. In this presentation, we describe how we tailored dementia workforce training for skilled interdisciplinary team members (first level tailoring), as well as provide two case studies elucidating how we performed further tailoring of the program for two large hospice agencies (average daily census: 354 and 868, respectively) in two different states to meet their local needs (second level tailoring), and lessons learned.

ABSTRACT

Background: In an interim analysis of Asian pts with uHCC in the observational REFINE study of regorafenib (NCT03289273), treatment-emergent adverse events (TEAEs) were consistent with those reported in the global, phase 3 RESORCE trial. Here, we present the final analysis of Asian pts with uHCC in REFINE. Method(s): REFINE is an international, prospective, multicenter study that enrolled pts with uHCC for whom a decision to treat with regorafenib was made by the treating physician prior to enrollment, according to the local health authority approved label. The primary objective is safety, including the incidences of TEAEs and dose modifications due to TEAEs (NCI-CTCAE v4.03). Secondary endpoints include overall survival, progression-free survival, and treatment duration. Result(s): Of the 1005 evaluable pts, 557 (55%) were from Asia (Korea [31%], Japan [26%], Taiwan [24%], China [18%], Thailand [1%]) and 82% were male. At baseline, median age was 65 years (range 21-94) and the most common HCC etiology in Asian pts was hepatitis B (60%) and in non-Asian pts was alcohol use (36%;Table). More Asian pts (71%) had received prior transarterial chemoembolization vs non-Asian pts (42%). The initial daily regorafenib dose was 160/120/80/40 mg in 51%/12%/35%/3% of Asian pts and 42%/9%/45%/4% of non-Asian pts.
